DIVAS DOING GOOD..... on TV

I CAN'T WAIT to launch our very first Divas Doing Good event on August 12th! We've partnered with Kanu Hawaii, a cool non profit that focuses on island-style activism (www.kanuhawaii.org). Simply stated, Kanu Hawaii is all about keeping Hawaii beautiful for future generations by making personal changes and leading by example... LOVE IT!

Our commitments at TWC? We've made 6.

1. I will not take an ATM receipt
2. I will reuse ribbon and wrapping paper
3. I will carpool at least once a week
4. I will support small Mom and Pops shops
5. I will carry a cute reusable tote everytime I go shopping
6. I will stop buying bottled water

We all have role models we look up to in the community and would LOVE to emulate. So in order to get our message across the state that we truly believe that GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK, we asked some of our DIVA friends such as Catherine Toth, Kanoe Uemura, Alice Inoue, Maila Gibson, Kandice Johns and Liz Chun to jump on the do-good bandwagon with us and help us put together a whoppin' video!

Catherine Toth, blogger-extraordinaire, has pledged to stop buying bottled water and to use a reuseable mug instead.

Kanoe Uemura, professional longboarder and total fashionista, has committed to bringing a fabulous tote whenever she shops to ease the production of plastic bags…

Alice Inoue, Hawaii's very own feng-shui expert, has promised to shop at mom and pop stores to help support the local economy.

Kandice Johns from the Life Foundation has pledged to reuse ribbon and wrapping paper.

Singing sensation, Maila Gibson, has committed to saying no when it comes to taking her atm receipt.

And Liz Chun, Sports Director and anchor for KGMB 9 news, has promised to walk more and drive less by carpooling at least once a week.

There are many ways to help create a better Hawaii and every little bit helps! Look at your life and see what you can do to change a little here and there. Join us on August 12th at Aloha Tower as we ROCK green in THE coolest way. Swing by any cafe for tickets!

Trees for the Future

I absolutely LOVE jewelry... and since I'm currently on a mission to be GREEN – by recycling, walking more, and committing to a better Hawaii through personal pledges with the help of Kanu Hawaii (www.kanuhawaii.org) – I've finally found a way to combine my addiction to shopping while helping the environment at the same time! Everytime a customer buys a leaf pendant or earring set from The Wedding Café, they will donate proceeds to plant a tree locally through Trees for the Future. What an awesome way to support this grass roots organization, Trees for the Future ( www.treesftf.org) AND score an ultra cute accessory! All leaves are hand selected and dipped in 24K gold or silver. Perfect for birthday gifts for your BFF... tell them you're planting a tree for them as well! Pendants range from $45-50. Earrings are $50. Available at The Wedding Cafe MANOA and WARD.
